What is your name and job title?

My name is Molly Lynch I'm currently a supply chain graduate in musgrave retail partners Ireland in Cork

Why did you choose Musgrave?

When I finished college I was researching companies, and Musgrave stood out to me, particularly because of the value that they stand for. These include long term stable relationships, not being greedy and working hard. To be able to work for an organisation that deals with everyday brands such as SuperValu and Centra and new and exciting brands is great, as is the fact that I’m working for a company that provides food to one out of every three Irish people. It really attracted me to their graduate programme.

How has the programme helped you develop?

As a supply chain graduate, I am on a two-year programme, split into three rotations; warehouse, reorder/buying and transport. I am currently on the warehouse rotation, where I am working as a line manager in one of our Cork depots, and this rotation will last eight months.

What made you choose a career in this sector?

Supply chain is a sector that's always growing, and it will always grow with our economy. I studied Business Studies in Dublin City University and I chose this sector because of the variety on offer in the role.

Your day-to-day work changes. It's constantly moving, fast-paced, I can work in a warehouse one week and then I may be in an office the next. It's constantly growing and changing that’s something that attracted me to this sector in particular.

What does your job involve?

As a line manager in a chill warehouse my day is constantly changing. Its very target driven, and I need to constantly be thinking forward and my decision-making skills are constantly tested day to day. My day may start at 6 a.m. or 8 a.m. and I'm constantly planning and with the end goal that our retailer is serviced in an effective and efficient manner.

What’s the best part of your job?

The thing that I love the best about my job and the program within Musgrave the people that I get to work with every day. I can already see that my interpersonal skills are developing with every task that I'm given. I'm supported by the graduate program management within Musgrave.

As a line manager in my current rotation in the chill warehouse, I'm able to watch people on my team grow, develop and reach their targets.

What does a typical working day look like?

Whilst in the warehouse rotation I do work shift work because the warehouse is constantly open it's a 24-hour operation servicing over 600 retailers in the Republic of Ireland. When I start work at 6:00 a.m. or 8:00 a.m. I do four 10-hour shifts. This will involve the handover from the nights manager, making sure everyone on the floor is set up for their day's work, if there are any concerns from our suppliers, so any issues are dealt with in an effective and efficient manner and our retailers or serviced to the level that Musgrave has promised them
