Skills & Knowledge

The module aims to develop skills and knowledge to allow multi-disciplinary staff to better understand the varied roles and responsibilities of professionals relative to all aspects of Child Protection in a clinical setting. This course has been designed to provide theoretical background with a significant emphasis on clinical experience and relevance.



What Will I Learn?

• Analyse their own theoretical and practical basis for the performance of their role as a valuable and effective member of the health and social care team and critically evaluate both themselves and the impact of other health care professionals in this area.

• Critically evaluate the child protection process and their role within it requiring the handling of complex issues in which students make judgements whilst reflecting upon the wider professional issues and the social and ethical responsibilities of their role as a professional within this area.

• Integrate current theories of child protection and communication in their clinical reasoning.

• Reflect on the social and ethical issues arising in their clinical practice in relation to child protection.

• Synthesise contemporary theory and research to develop theoretical and conceptual frameworks supporting advanced professional practice in child welfare and protection.
