Nursing - Critical Care Nursing
This programme is designed for UCD Graduate diplomas holders in the following specialities: Critical Care–Intensive Care, Critical Care Cardiovascular, Heart Failure Nursing, Paediatric Critical Care and Peri-Operative Nursing.
This exciting programme will enable you to develop the knowledge and skills in advanced health assessment of critically ill patients. You will also get the opportunity to explore and address research questions that arise in your clinical practice.
Subjects taught
The MSc Critical Care programme consists of two modules:
Autumn Trimester: NMHS 42960 Advanced Health Assessment, (10 credits)
Autumn & Spring Trimester: NMHS44020 Master’s dissertation: Evidence Synthesis and Translation (30 credits)
Entry requirements
All applicants must be listed on the Register of Nurses and Midwives, which is maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
Applicants must be employed in clinical practice in Ireland while undertaking the programme
Applicants must have completed a Graduate Diploma in one of the following specialities: Critical Care–Intensive Care, Critical Care-Cardiovascular, Heart Failure Nursing, Paediatric Critical Care and Peri-Operative Nursing.

Academic Transcripts including date and grading of Degree award (non UCD only)
Nurse applicants must provide copy of current registration and Pin with An Bord Altranais
Copy of Birth Certificate or Personal Pages of Passport (non UCD only)
Professional Reference Form
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
RPL may be granted in respect of individual modules if applicants can demonstrate that the modules' learning outcomes have been achieved through prior credentialled or experiential learning. In some cases, where an applicant does not meet the prerequisites for entry to a programme, an RPL application may be considered. Further information can be found in respect of this here.
