FAQs:
An engineering internship is a period of work experience within an engineering team. You can find engineering internships across a range of industries – from aerospace through to pharmaceuticals – and with both the largest and smallest engineering employers. As an engineering intern, you’ll learn the ropes by shadowing senior engineers, assisting with tasks on current projects and attending formal training sessions.
Engineering internships are usually offered in the summer and last between 6 and 12 weeks. However, it also common for engineering students to do an engineering placement year (also called an industrial placement or year in industry). This tends to last for 12 months and involves taking a year out from your degree.
