IT internships

An internship is a type of formal work experience offered to university students. These opportunities usually have a fixed structure and last for a predetermined amount of time. Organisations that offer internships tend to provide plenty of opportunities for graduates to develop their skills and stay on with the organisation.

Many graduate employers in the IT sector offer paid technology internships or formal work placements that can range from a couple of months during the summer vacation to a full sandwich year as part of your degree course. These are typically intended for penultimate-year students.

Many employers use their placement schemes as the first stage in graduate recruitment – interns who impress may be fast-tracked through the graduate recruitment process.

As an IT intern, your day-to-day role will usually include maintaining and troubleshooting issues with both hardware and software.

Tech internships can be found across virtually all employers, so tend to fall into the same recruitment timetable as for their other vacancies. Across the board, however, most large employers will open applications in September and October and have November or December deadlines.
