The Role
The Health & Safety Internship has responsibility for assisting the Southern Region Manager in the implementation of the Health & Safety program.
The following reflect the main tasks associated with your position and are not intended to be exclusive or exhaustive:
- Ensure that any person who carries out construction work for or on behalf of Breedon, shall ensure so far as is reasonably practicable, that such work is performed in a manner which is safe and without risk to health and that it complies with all relevant statutory provisions.
- To ensure Breedon Group Ltd complies with the requirements of current safety legislation and approved codes of practice and guidance issued by the Health & Safety Authority.
- To ensure that all staff are provided with relevant information, instruction and training on safety, health, and welfare.
- Ensure that adequate consultation procedures exist with staff through regular safety meetings and discussions at regular intervals throughout the project.
- Consider and support when appropriate any representations on Health & Safety from staff or contractors.
- Ensure that contractors and visitors are made aware of and fully comply with the contractor policy and procedures.
- Ensure that all reportable accidents are notified to the Health & Safety Authority.
- Ensure that all statutory examinations as set out in the appropriate statutory legislation are carried out and records maintained.
- Ensure that all new equipment, substances, and systems of work are properly assessed for any potential risks prior to their introduction.
- Ensure that all accidents and incidents are recorded and investigated with corrective actions agreed.
- Co-ordinate and implement Health & Safety training programmes for staff.
- Maintain records of all safety training carried out for each staff member.
- Ensure that regular monitoring of the safety programme is carried incorporating safety audits and inspections within various departments.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
Essential Criteria:
- An appropriate third level qualification in Health and Safety is required or working towards qualification.
- Must hold a full Irish driving licence and be willing to travel to other company sites.
- You possess a good working knowledge of Health & Safety Law (Legal Requirements and ACoPs)
- You can assist to undertake site inspections and audits and to make appropriate recommendations for improvement as necessary.
- You have the ability to assist to conduct Risk Assessments and produce associated documentation.
- You have the ability to assist to investigate accidents and dangerous occurrences and compile appropriate records.
- Diploma in health and Safety - advantage
