Advice featuring RBK
Audit & Assurance Senior
I joined the Audit & Assurance Department in RBK Athlone as a Trainee in September 2019. Throughout my training contract I have gained experience working on various industry and dealing with different clients.
In the meantime I have received great support from my Buddy, Seniors and Managers who support and assist me with my queries. Although I am working in the Audit Department I also get the opportunity to work on Income Tax, VAT, and Accounts Preparation. I was also given on the job training which is important as it allows me to achieve success in my professional accounting exam.
In addition, RBK organise various sports and social events throughout the year which give me the opportunity to socialise with work colleagues.
SME Accounting Solutions Trainee
In September 2021, I joined the RBK’s Graduate Programme. Joining the SME Dublin Team within a medium-sized Firm has offered me great opportunities for developing as a trainee and as a person. Working alongside very helpful Seniors, Managers and Partners who support you in your role and professional accounting examinations.
After completing my Accounting and Finance degree at the National College of Ireland, I earned CAP1 exemptions. Recently, I completed my FAEs with CAI. The support from colleagues and the Firm's dedication in offering plenty of resources eased the exam pressure. The varied client base from sole traders, charities to small multinational companies has provided me a wide range of experience and enabled me to engage with insightful professionals across various fields. Since joining, career progression has been at the front of my mind and seeing promotions in my department and in others has shown me this is an achievable goal for anyone in the Firm.
Work life balance is a key focus for RBK. There is a great social aspect which is perfect for developing relationships and getting to know everyone. This year I enjoyed participating in a 5-a-side tournament, an outdoor summer event and my colleagues are looking forward to an upcoming foreign mystery tour.
My summer internship with RBK
I joined RBK as an Audit and Accounting Intern in June 2021 in the Roscommon office. I was made feel welcome from the very first day. The firm’s open-door policy was very beneficial as I felt comfortable approaching my seniors and managers at any time. I was encouraged to ask questions and everyone in the firm was patient and willing to explain things that were new to me.
As a recent graduate in Accounting and English, I wanted to obtain a practical insight into the accounting profession before I further embarked on my accountancy career. RBK afforded me with the opportunity to explore diverse industries and service lines. As part of my internship, I assisted in accounts preparation, completed income tax returns and VAT submissions. I also received extensive training on accounting software packages. The training and support that RBK provides is exceptional, and it is something that they take great pride in. I learned many lessons that apply not only to accounting and the principles and practices associated with that subject, but also to life as a professional in a real-world work environment.
My summer internship with RBK was an incredible learning experience that I will bring forth into my future career as an accountant. I am grateful to have worked alongside some of the most experienced professionals at RBK and, through our time working together, made friends for life.
